How Exactly Does Legends Car Racing Work?
Running since the late 1990's, Legends Car Racing comes to visit tracks across the British Isles, and ran a 15 round tournament, however they didn't pay a visit to Scotland this past year.
3 races are held - 2 heats and a final - at a round of the championship, the heats lasting approximately 7 and 12 laps dependent upon the circuit, with the final several laps longer. The grid for race 1 is drawn by drawing lots, with the opposite for Heat 2, and in the final the grid is formed by the reverse of the drivers points in the previous two races - which means the most successful driver will start at the back.

Just what is a Legends Sports car?
The car used for Legends car racing is a type of race car, designed principally to encourage exciting racing and to keep costs down. The body-shells of Legends Cars are 5/8-scale replications of American motor cars from the 1930s and 1940s, powered by a Yamaha motorcycle motor.
In April of '92, a revolutionary fresh race car, the Legends Car, was presented at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. H.A. "Humpy” Wheeler and Elliott Forbes-Robinson, constructed the 5/8-scale fiberglass versions of the famed 1930-1940 NASCAR’s .The thought was to produce a fun, reliable, and inexpensive "spec" class of racing for anyone.
Competitors are not permitted to make any serious variations to the original car. Add a strict group of rules and you've got a series that is fair for everybody involved.
The cars feature a Yamaha FJ 1200 motorcycle engine which produces 125 horse power. Horse power isn't a critical aspect in the Legends Cars Series considering that the rules require use of a 13 inch, 60 series BF Goodrich radial "Legends Edition" tyre mounted on a 7-inch wide steel wheel.
Why Legends Cars are so visually interesting?
One of reasons behind the success of the Legends Car Racing is without question the car's physical appearance. The fibreglass bodied cars are just about precise replicas of the 1934 and 1940 Fords and Chevys that founded the grassroots of racing as we know it.
All 2 " of the original car bodies were calculated and lowered by computer systems to insure their legitimateness. Unlike bigger, full-size cars, the Legends Car has a "lovely" look and feel at first. But the power of 120 horses of the Yamaha FJ 1200 immediately dispels any thoughts this race car means anything but serious business.
